How to Measure for Your Custom Collar
Getting the right measurements is easier than you might think. We’ve got two main collar styles, and each one measures a bit differently.
For Buckle Collars (Traditional Belt-Style)
If your dog already has a buckle collar that fits well, this is the easiest method:
- Lay the collar flat on a table
- Fold it at the hole you use most often
- Measure from the fold to the end of the leather strap (not including the buckle)
That’s it. This measurement tells us exactly where that sweet spot is for your dog, and we’ll build the collar around it.
Think of it just like measuring a belt: you’re not measuring the entire length, just the functional part that matters for the fit.
For Clip-Up Collars
Clip-up collars work a bit differently because there’s no buckle adjustment. For these, we need the total material length.
If you’ve got an existing clip-up collar that fits well, simply measure the entire length of the leather or material from end to end (excluding the clips themselves).
This gives us the exact size to replicate so your new collar fits just as comfortably as the old one: but looks a whole lot better and lasts a whole lot longer.
